Last lesson we were getting all of our planning sorted for the main coursework task which I'll put up on the blog soon. We also drafted our contents page for homework and then did a peer evaluation which I have uploaded on the blog.

I still have to complete the planning sheet and pop it on the blog but finished my first, second and third drafts of my front cover. Without a picture I couldn't get any peer evaluation on my main image or thumbnails but the other parts were viewed and assessed. I'll post them on the blog as soon as I scan them in or type them up.

I've decided to change my genre for the magazine from a Folk magazine to a Jazz magazine. My Granddad and my dad are both Jazz musicians and so I've been brought up with Sinatra, the Rat Pack and Luther Vandross. Knowledge of Jazz just comes naturally to me, like breathing, and it helps that I like the genre too :)

Today I'm adding all of the prelim work to the website and doing some research in Folk magazines for my real coursework. I'm making an audience survey to post to the rest of the school.
I hope I don't get too many answers like last time, it's hard to sort through them all!

NME cover and Metal Hammer cover
The colours schemes of these two magazines are red, white, black. The cover photographs are vey different in message but he colours are the same. The general common features betweeen the two magazines compared to the glamour and fashion mags are that the amount of pictures compared to writing is significantly less. The mags are targetted at a specific audience that they know will want more information than visual.

Grazia cover and Now cover
The common elements of these two magazines is the bright, stereotypically female colours on the covers. The colours for Grazia are mainly orange and yellow whereas for Now they are blue, pink, orange, white and black. Another point is that the coverlines for these magazines cover a large proportion of the page compared to the music mags with only a couple and sometimes none at all.

For the last 6 weeks we have been looking into semiotic analysis (of which I have an example under the specific research tab) and looking into making a preliminary piece (front cover of a school/college magazine).

I found this task quite difficult to do because I have never done a magazine cover before and so I didn't have much experience. I am not extremely happy with my front cover but I have posted it under the 'research' tab to hopefully show my progression.
